After taking enough time to mourn, I have decided to begin a memorial portrait of my own cat, Maya, who passed away earlier this year. I found a pose of her that I really liked. Something about that upward stare, looking at a fly or whatever, reminds me of when she was a kitten…always so curious and adventurous. I sure did love her during her brief life. Funny thing about pets – when they’re gone, they’re never really gone.

I’ve finished Maya’s portrait. It was really satisfying to work on this one, it was like having her with me every day again. Such a sweet, gentle, loving cat. She is missed so much, even though she is with me always.
