My sister had to put down her dachsund Bailey last week. Such a hard thing to do, but it was necessary. I will begin his portrait this week and will post updates as I progress. Check back soon!

Bailey is a very sick miniature longhaired dachshund.
Here are three snapshots of my progress so far: #1- I always begin with the eyes. #2- Then I focus on the darkest areas of the portrait. It’s more common to start out light and build up darks, but I often find it easier to place the darkest areas first and work around them. #3- I begin blending to create the illusion of smooth hair, especially in his long ears.

My portrait of “Bailey” is finished, just in time to give to dear old Dad for his birthday. “Bailey” was my sister’s dog, who had to be put down earlier this year; he was much loved by our Dad. She says I perfectly captured Bailey’s sad eyes and long, hairy ears (which always looked like pigtails).
