My good friend Victoria was planning her wedding and wanted to give her new husband a wedding gift. She asked me to draw two cardinals, as they are her favorite birds. Also, I learned later, the word cardinal is formed from the root “cardo”, meaning heart (as in cardiovascular). It can also mean, “hinge or axis”, upon which everything depends. What a very sweet and fitting portrait for a couple of newlyweds!
