If you are considering a portrait of your pet, you will need to decide whether you want it done in color or graphite (black & white). Some people will ask, “Why would I not want color?” Here is a brief anwer: Value is more important than color to the design and success of a drawing. Value is the different shades of gray between white and black. Artists use value to translate the light and shadows they see into shading, thus creating the illusion of a third dimension. This can be used to create a focal point within a drawing. When you strip away color from an object, you are left with it’s bare essence, it’s soul.
Art from the Heart
It is a great joy to be a professional pet portrait artist, where I can combine my love of animals and art. It is also nice to know that my art makes people happy, and in some cases helps them recover after the loss of their pet. Every drawing I do is a labor of love, and every portrait is as unique as the animal it portrays. It would be a pleasure to work with you on your own one-of-a-kind pet portrait! Contact me here.
